DIANA WYNNE-JONES 1934-2011

Beloved fantasy/science fiction writer Diana Wynne-Jones succumbed to cancer on March 26 at the age of 74. Her magical books were written primarily for children and young adults, but are enjoyed by all ages. Howl's Moving Castle was made into an Academy-Award-nominated animated film.

EARTH HOUR 2011

8:30 p.m. (local time) all over the world today, March 26, is Earth Hour, a simple ritual to bring awareness to climate changes caused by pollution. The idea is to turn off all unnecessary lights and electricity for one hour. As usual, Fiji and Australia started if off. Pictures of the events can be seen of a special Flickr page. The World Wildlife Fund is a sponsor. Illinois will be participating, with many public buildings turning off lights. Here is an official video:
