ALEXANDER SOLZHENITSYN 1918-2008

The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, has died at the age of 89. Exiled for decades from his Russian homeland, he only returned there in the mid '90's, living just outside Moscow.

His most famous works for Westerners are One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (1963) and The Gulag Archipelago (1974-78). The Elk Grove Village Public Library also has copies of translations of some of his other work:
